Going back into the depths this week, for a mix from 2013 from Priku.

For me, I thought 2013 was probably peak Romanian minimal, there were all these exciting names coming out of Romania, all this gloriously hypnotic minimal – before it all went a bit too cheesy with edits of Madonna and all kinds of crud (those cheesy days seem over too).

Priku was one of those exciting names coming out of Romania – he made some pretty damn good tracks, especially Mini Clip and Monday Swing, but I was more into him as a DJ. And this kind of mix is why.

It really is a Rolls Royce of Romanian minimalism, the totally gorgeous Swan Lake by Vlad Caia, other tracks by the likes of Melchior Communications Ltd, Cristi Cons, Petre Inspirescu, Rhadoo – even a spot of Peace Division.

Like the mix itself is soooo timeless, but also many of the tracks within are too.

More recent sets from Priku I’ve not been that impressed with, alas – though sometimes I can wallow in the glories of the past too much.
