Ahhh I’m back to the lush musical surroundings of Forest Drive West, this time a 2.5 hour set from Boom Festival in 2022.

Surprisingly this is only the second time I’ve featured Forest Drive West, considering what an outstanding DJ and producer he is, and just how absolutely on the ball with his music he is too.

This mix starts on the chilled side, yet with almost an industrial side – it feels like it was one of the first mixes of the festival day, trying to get weary revellers on side but not pushing them too far. I do admire Forest Drive West’s intelligent approach.

For me, it really takes a twist into dark wondrous soundscapes when he plays Ancestral Voices’ Samhain in the second hour of the set.

What a sensationally dark yet upliftingly tribal track. Others tracks by the likes of Barac and Shackleton give this a really spacey feel, occasionally minimal too – but just otherworldly.

This is one superb mix from an absolute master.
