This mix from DJ Marcelle starts with someone screaming “help” for 3 and a half minutes. You are going to need to be patient and a little bit broad-minded for this one.
At first I thought I hated the mix from DJ Marcelle – some really tough beats, a sirenetic call to arms, some choppy mixing and all-out weirdness, and that was all in the first 10 minutes.
There is no thought for matching tempos – the mixing seems almost like anti-mixing at times. Amongst the more recognisable genres that are mixed in include drum’n’bass, hip-hop, reggae, offbeat techno – all kinds of weird jumping kinda tough world music/leftfield kinda stuff.
It is quite painful, yet like the remix of Whigfield’s Saturday Night, there is a charm to the process.
She’s another DJ/producer from Amsterdam – one to watch as long as you like your tougher, more weird kind of music.
Enjoyment rating of 6.77.
