ItaloJohnson have been knocking around for a while now as an anonymous…duo…trio? I’m unconvinced of their number but I am convinced of the quality of their productions – one or two releases under their own ItaloJohnson label come out every year and have done since 2010. And they have become a byword for quality, raw, underground house music. Always understated, but always with enough quirks and groove to make them stand out.
And very danceable they are too.
But are they good DJs too? Well, I wouldn’t be writing this post if something hasn’t excited me…hell don’t let me be the one person that criticises something on the underground circuit.
The first 30 or so minutes of the mix is quite punchy – some tracks most of you will recognise. Then it goes deeper. Some really good underground tracks, and puts you through your paces – before later unleashing STL’s Something Is Raw as your reward.
It gets a bit tougher towards the end once more, some proper solid, raw house sounds. The mixing is spot on throughout, and the flow is good. Lots of great music. I don’t know what more you could want.
An enjoyment rating of 7.95.
