Hodge With Two Shell – 9th March 2020
- Post DateFri Mar 17 2023
I’m mainly recommending this radio show for Two Shell’s guest mix, though Hodge is of fair interest too.
The show was recorded in those days that we’ve all forgotten about, March 2020 – so maybe there is a sense of foreboding in the music played – I cannot say that I enjoyed everything that Hodge played, most notably one yucky r’n’b track, but with radio shows you do have to take the delights with the drudge, especially when listening to radio shows from people, like Hodge, who have varied tastes.
But then when he gets it right, he really gets it right – quite some bassline on the squelchy track around 36 minutes in. And Piezo’s remix of Gamme by Cleveland is possibly the best track of the show.
However, I’m more interested in Two Shell, who have been making waves in this kind of offbeat techno/bass/post-dubstep scene in the last couple of years, notably with their productions – their track, Round, is the hottest remix of The Sugababes ever.
I’m being serious – it is a proper fire track.
Couched in pre-futuristic samples that you may imagine from 1970’s sci-fi, Two Shell’s mix is an exploration through their world, through this kind of bass-led environment, with breakbeats and almost hints of garage at times.
And with a gorgeous little garage track to cheer everyone up at the end, ahead of lockdown.
Enjoyment rating of 7.07.
