RAHA @ Club Der Visionaere, Berlin – 6th August 2023
- Post DateFri Oct 11 2024
Wow. Firstly I didn’t actually know RAHA was Japanese. But also this mix.
It’s an hour into the mix and he’s playing Caetano Veloso – Depois Que o Ilê Passar (Luciano Remix) – a track that you can fall in love with, and I swear has sampled Stewie from Family Guy saying “mummy”.
But the mix doesn’t start like this – the first hour is in fact rather languid, assumedly the opening hour of Club Der Visionaere, and it does go through some weirdness before you realise that it will be minimal techno – but it is all joyful, curious weirdness.
RAHA isn’t a name that crops up often, and until I checked just now, I assumed he was just one of the Romanians, one of the dozens and dozens of really good Romanian minimal DJs in the scene over there.
But, no, he’s from Japan, and mostly plays over there – this was actually his first gig outside Japan since that pandemic thing. Other than that, I don’t know much about him, other than every year or two I find a really good minimal techno mix from him. One production only – and that was in 2020, so I guess there wasn’t much to do in that year or something.
Anyway, this mix. It has all the clicks and bleeps you’d expect from this style of minimal, along with occasional sweeping synths. Some of the tracks are really glorious, others more worthy of a move or two. And overall it is a really well constructed mix.
Also the sound quality is pretty good for a DJ mix too.
Enjoyment rating of 8.08.
