More Ivan Smagghe? Hell yeah.

So Ivan Smagghe has been around for years and years, and on my radar for many of them – I would often listen to his mixes on the early 2000’s, when he would have both minimal and electro influences in his mixes, my two favourite styles at the time, certainly 2004 onwards.

Of course we are a long way from then, but though his style has matured somewhat, it is still quite similar, lots of electro-tinged tracks, and there’s a bit of fun in this set too.

The mix starts with setting the scene, there’s some groove at times, but it definitely feels more like he’s warming you up for something.

The first 90 minutes are just decent quality electro-tinged tech-house, but then he pulls out Dick By The Pound – a Detroit classic though with, erm, interesting vocals.

Afterwards it becomes a bit techier, but also more twisted.

And gradually the more fun side of Ivan Smagghe comes out too, probably peaking with Mystic Bill’s U Won’t C Me – at least in my view.

This is a solid understanding of the world of Ivan Smagghe in 2023.
