Bassiani Invites DJ Nobu – Podcast 125
- Post DateFri Jul 07 2023
There’s not a lot of Japanese DJs that have a name for themselves in western countries, but I think it is safe to say that DJ Nobu does.
I don’t much know him as a producer – his discography is fairly limited, and that that I’ve heard before is on the techno side of things, sometimes very much so.
In fact, I used to think that DJ Nobu was a techno DJ, even if sometimes his mixes were slightly more avant-garde and slower pitched, however this mix is DJ Nobu coming out as a house DJ – well, revealing himself as such to me anyway.
House or techno…well kind of neither fit this mix perfectly as it does swarm around various genres which is probably why I liked it so much – for example, Techno Bert’s Neue Dimensionen – an early 1990’s trance classic.
However it does have some proper house moments – such as Liquid People & Africanism’s Love Is The Answer – quite why I don’t have that on vinyl is a mystery. Or maybe you’ll find more love from Moodymann’s Shades Of Jae?
There’s even some disco/Italo moments towards the end. It is quite a fun mix really – one imagines that the crown at Bassiani had a great night!
Enjoyment rating of 7.30.
